If People Would Just.

It seems as though as soon as this particular thought popped up in my head, it was continuously being justified in every aspect of my life: if people weren't so difficult, life would be so much easier. My boyfriend and I had a very specific discussion about our current challenges in our personal lives. By the end of it I came to the conclusion that if certain people [in his life] would just let the bullshit go and be approachable, easy to work with, etc., LIFE would be so much easier. The end result was the realization that this notion was applicable to not only his life, but, my life, and I'm sure everyone else's.

You do have two opposite points in your life. One being where you don't feel the need to initiate those difficult conversations or you avoid anything potentially difficult altogether. You're usually extremely passive or a pushover. The effort you could be putting towards committing a courageous act and facing your fears is used to push your true internal feelings down to the pit of your stomach. Eventually, you forget who you are, where you are, or why you are; all because of that ONE difficult ass person. Or those group of difficult ass people. Sometimes there are cases where both or all persons involved notice that there's some obstacle in the way of a better tomorrow. However, no one involved wants to be the first person to address the issues. So everyone acts ignorant. Or no one just seems to care enough to even try.

The other point would be letting the more assertive you take center stage. There comes a time when you say enough is enough. You'd like all the bullshit to cease and for everyone to be real about the situation at hand. At moments where you'd typically bring your artificial persona to the forefront of the situation, you decide to shed some light on the issue(s) at hand. You begin standing up for yourself, despite what arguments it may cause. Then the more you do that, the more you start to regret. You find yourself looking back and believing that when you were extra passive your troubles were less. You also have this huge epiphany; the epiphany which I had just a few short days ago. YOU'RE DEALING WITH A DIFFICULT MOTHERFUCKER. Well, that's truly not the epiphany. It's really that with each rebuttal you notice the lack of cooperation. Like, damn. Aren't we both mature enough to come to some type of compromise or agreement? Do you have to be so obstinate about the details which I find irrelevant, but you see as important? Unfortunately, yes.

People are like this in our workplaces, our homes, our relationships, our friendships. They don’t realize that they're holding up a very special process which involves getting over a hump and moving forward with life. It's always what seems to be that one obstacle that never moves far enough to the right or the left in order for you to move out of that terrible situation, save enough money, get that new job, pay that damn bill, have that awkward meeting, finish that project, etc. People don't realize the inconvenience they cause those they are working with when they either have a lackadaisical or much too aggressive disposition. That delay between responding to an urgent email is preventing the person on the other end from finishing their job. That compulsive reaction to the actions of others is preventing those you love from being their true selves around you. That passive-aggressive way in which you handle situations with those around you prevents you from building fruitful relationships. If only those on the other end would realize.

Through all of this I've come to an additional conclusion. You can only change the actions of those you're involved with by changing your own. The energy invested in getting someone to realize the hindrance you feel they're putting on your life should be put into working towards having an objective perspective. It's challenging to work through situations where your emotions are involved. Though, if you choose to note how you feel and understand it from the outside looking in, you're getting that much closer to your solution. From there you'll realize that the blame you're putting on [the difficult motherfucker] could very well be an understanding about you both. It is much easier to point the finger at everyone else but yourself. However, let me tell you now, there is always somewhere that you can take responsibility. Maybe not equal responsibility, but some kind of responsibility. Coming to grips with the fact that no one is perfect, including you.  Trust that the less time you put towards "fixing" a situation and the more time you put towards understanding it, will actually result in it being "fixed".

Trying!!!

Have you ever felt like when you have a certain type of relationship with somebody, you tend to try more than normal or make yourself too available? Like you are willing to do any and everything in your power to make another person happy and yet it doesn't seem like it gets you anywhere. Having someone tell you that they appreciate you compared to feeling appreciated are two different things. It is as if they do not realize everything you do for them big or small based off their actions. Actions do speak louder than words on so many levels.

Whether the relationship is like, lust, or love, something keeps you trying. People believe in love at first sight, but how do they really know that it was love instead of like or lust. If you start off a relationship believing its love but in all reality its lust you are doomed. If you are under the mindset or even convinced yourself that it is love, you are in for temporary happiness. Once you really know what you are getting yourself into then you proceed.

What is it that keeps you trying though? It could be the way you feel for that person and you are looking for that to be reciprocated. Like the way you feel could have you looking stupid when it's all said and done. In many situations you may have felt like throwing in the towel, but something kept you there. It could just be the idea of having that relationship or what the relationship means to you. Just think about it.

Believing In That Which You Can’t See

It takes a brave person to have faith in what isn’t tangible. The average person needs proof by seeing something they can touch, feel, and get to know before they make an investment in it. I think a big part of life is making those types of decisions. Are you going to walk by faith? Or by sight?

I think that people who choose to walk by sight want to be seen as smarter people. They believe that their ability to make a decision based off of facts amounts to some level of intelligence. They’re convinced that they’re better off because they know what they’re getting themselves into before they make a commitment. However, walking just by sight puts you in a position to live life from a very limited view. You can never completely love and trust if you operate based off of proof of something in a physical form. You’ll constantly walk around with walls built because you have a predisposition on certain circumstances if they don’t have tangible facts. Ultimately, you’re missing out on opportunities to fully indulge in the true beauty of life.

What is the true beauty of life? The true beauty of life=spiritual relationships. I say spiritual relationships because physical relationships are very temporary and serve less purpose than most people believe. Spirits speak volumes. Spiritual connections are the derivative for any physical connections. If you think about it, whenever you experience someone sexually after having a spiritual connection with them it increases the passion. it intensifies that physical aspect of the relationship. Spiritual relationships are the true beauty of life because they are what connect souls to other souls and remove the emphasis put on physical appearance and position.

When you walk by faith you don’t have to have proof of a physical being or experience in order to know something is real. Walking by faith is powerful because it moves you to take steps your normally wouldn’t take. Being moved by a voice within to make certain decisions and then trusting that the outcome will only enrich your experiences takes a lot of courage, but is well worth it. I appreciate faith. Faith broadens your horizons and actually brings about many revelations. Once you choose to walk by faith and continue to do so, you’ll be taken to places in life that will reveal so much to you.

Walking by faith won’t eliminate the pain, but it will open up doors for you in your life that no physical being or thing can shut.

Be Careful Where You Invest Your Energy

Putting energy into certain situations, conversations, and relationships can be very exhausting when it's misplaced. Investing time and effort into things that don't deserve your attention depletes you of your resourcefulness, and essentially, your happiness as well. I think a lot of times it is easy to feed into a situation that is petty or negative. It may not be that big of a deal, but you don't find that out until after you've blown a fuse. Problems arise when emotionally based responses start taking a toll on you physically and mentally.

Being positive and investing the best parts of you into places where you will reap benefits plus interest actually energizes you. As opposed to taking every chance you get to point out a flaw or be negative (which depletes you). Be mindful of the situations you put yourself in daily. Slowly but surely they will start to have a long lasting effect on how you operate and perceive things and people. Just be sure to constantly motivate yourself and pay attention to those who bring positivity into your life. Remove yourself from situations that bring you down.

That Feeling....

Have you ever been in a relationship where you give your all and it seems like its a slap in the face?
Like you do everything in your power to satisfy that person and it still blows up in your face. When you first get in a relationship with somebody, what is that based off of? Could it be the initial connection that you both shared or something more? Then when everything hits the fan, what keeps the both of you together?

I believe that a factor in these certain situations is misunderstanding coming from both people. If you could understand where a person is coming from and vice-versa that could possibly have a different outcome. Communication is key!

Attitudes are another thing that I think play a huge role in bad situations happening in relationships. You have people that once they get an attitude everything goes downhill from there. Simply because they are so caught up in their emotions while trying to release that built up feeling in any way possible. Saying hurtful things, doing hurtful things, and even acting a certain can be results from having an attitude.

Trying to think of why things are happening can get overwhelming. Therefore you need to find coping mechanisms to help alleviate that feeling of being overwhelmed.

Happy Valentine's Day from This Guy and His Pet Rooster!!

My co-worker comes back from her lunch and she tells me that she has a picture to show me.

She shows me this picture of a homeless guy and his pet Rooster, she said that she could not believe her eyes. The rooster's name is Garfield, and he was walking up and down State Street in Chicago. How random is it to find a guy with a pet rooster out on the street?

His sign does say Happy Valentine's Day, I just thought I would share this picture.

Keepin’ It Real by PractiKAL - Seg.5

Segment: 5

How is it going?

There is a difference between eating GOOD and eating BAD.  You can=t always fill up on bad stuff day in and day out and expect results - weight going DOWN not UP.  My theory is when you do good for so long, you deserve a little bad.  Meaning treat yourself one day out of a week (still in moderation).

In my previous segment(s) I mentioned telling you about #OperationPeelTheCoat. - I am finally going to tell you.

When I made the commitment to lose weight (my New Year=s Resolution) many years ago,  I followed my own advise  to you in Seg. 1 and Seg. 2.  I took the challenge.  I wanted to control my destiny.

So I did what I asked you to do - I Envisioned how I would look six months from the time I started; I Envisioned the reactions I would get from people once I lost weight; I Envisioned people asking about my secrets of my success.

Five months after I started - I went from a size 16 to a size 8.  Yes I did.  I stuck with it.

What made it even sweeter for me was the fact that all winter long my weight was hidden under my coat.  But when the warm weather really settled in, when it was time for us toAPeel Off Our  Coats@ I was a size 8.  When my train buddies, etc. saw me, they were amazed at the new me.  I got responses like AOMG you lost weight@; AYou are so skinny@; ALook at you - what did you do?@; and some people even asked Aare you sick@.

Remember, during the winter, the only people who see really see you without a winter coat on are the people you live with or people work with.  So for me, when I walked in a place that I frequented during the winter with my coat on and when back with no coat, people bombarded me with questions about my weight loss success.

Do you know how that made me feel?  ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!  That is why I call it #OperationPeelTheCoat.

If I pack on a few pounds during the winter, I automatically know what I have to do before I peel my coat off the following year.  I think this is a clever way to stay on top of your game.  So during #OperationPeelTheCoat 2014 - I started challenging myself again (even though I do not need to), but I always want to prove to myself that I control my destiny.  Actually I am a size 6 now.

So for you, all you have to do is be determined as I was and handle your business.

In the next segment, I will tell you about my moderate exercise routine for those of you who claim not to have time.  You know that is a bunch of BS don=t you.  Another excuse !

Until then - - keep it real

Keepin’ It Real by PractiKAL - Seg.4

Segment: 4

STAY TUNED TO YOUR PROGRESS

Are you staying motivated?  Are you keeping the promise you made to yourself?

I hope you have made better choices as to what you eat.
I hope you have been drinking more water - at least 8 ounces every couple of hours.
I hope you have been eating fruit as a snack instead of that Kit Kat bar.
I hope you tell yourself that you EAT TO LIVE and not LIVE TO EAT and definitely not LOVE TO EAT because that is why you are not at our idea weight. I=m Just Keepin= It Real.

Let me ask you a few questions:

Q:         Do you know what it feels like to be hungry?
A:         Uh, not really because I=m always eating something.

Q:         Do you know what it feels like to be full (stuffed)?
A:         Yep - When I have to unfasten my pants and sit back with the remote and then eventually
doze off to La La Land.

Q:         Do you know what it feels like when you are satisfied?
A:         Nope, I guess not because when I eat - I always say ABoy, I shouldn=t have eaten that
much - now I feel miserable".  (This is the norm for a lot of folks).

If any of the above describes you - don=t be ashamed - get serious and do something about it.  REPEAT these phrases : I eat to live and not  LIVE TO EAT.  I=m Just Keepin= It Real for you.

Here are a few tips:
Try using mustard instead of mayo on sandwiches;
Wheat not white bread;
Do not add salt to food once on your plate;
If you must have some chips, eat only a few to satisfy your taste-bud;
Protein shake with fruit as meal replacement
I told you about the oatmeal

NOTE:   Just say all of the sudden you had a taste for some BBQ chips.  It is better to eat SOME rather than none.  You don=t want to start feeling deprived.  If you do, you will over-indulge and quit.  So go ahead, satisfy your taste-bud this time.  Actually this is exactly what happened to me - I ate a few chips and felt guilty afterwards.  I hope you feel the same way. Hopefully you satisfied your craving and felt bad doing it.  GOOD because you are becoming committed to your promise to yourself.

Stay motivated and do not let any sabotage your goals.  Keep on envisioning the New Smaller, Better You.  I still can=t wait to tell you about #OperationPeelTheCoat.

Back Fired!?

Have you tried to help somebody before and things just did not go as planned?

It back-fired and blew up in your face. Then you find yourself wondering why did I even offer assistance or even put myself in that situation. It happens to all of us, we try to do something and it doesn't turn out the way we intended.

So I'm going to stop volunteering my help, and my advice. Just wait until I am asked for help or for  my advice. That seems easier than taking it into your own hands.

Keepin’ It Real by PractiKAL - Seg. 3

Segment: 3

If you made an attempt at following the challenge in Seg. 2, you are on your way to doing something good to your body.  Whether it has been 1, 2 or 3 days so far, you are cleansing your system of all the foods that take forever to break down and pass through - it is almost like weaning yourself off of something.

Now, lets get back to “Keeping It Real”.  I want to share with you how it was for me when I first started my challenge over 10 years ago.  I challenged myself just like I challenged you resist going to FAST FOOD JOINTS like McDonald’s, etc.  After my first week I felt like I was being starved BUT I SURVIVED.  I could notice my clothes were fitting a little looser.

WHY was I feeling like I was being starved: Because when I eliminated the junk food, I found I was not eating anything healthy so I did not eat.

WHY didn't I eat: Because my ENTIRE diet consisted of junk food.

NOTE:  Not only did I stop fast food I also gave up POP, chips, cookies and all candy. I really pushed myself by giving up all of the above at once, but you know what, I did it and I saw results.

I didn't want to be that extreme with you guys by saying “just give up everything” because giving up everything all at once like I did can cause you to throw in the towel and give up.

IMPORTANCE:   I did start eating plenty of fruit, salads and drank lots of water.  Instead of McDonald’s pancake breakfast with an extra syrup and ketchup for hash brown, I ate Instant Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal with one slice of wheat toast instead.  I never liked oatmeal nor the sight of it,  but when I saw a TV commercial that oatmeal helped reduce high cholesterol (and mine was off the chart) - I incorporated it in my diet.  I figured “well since in a on a role with doing good for my body, why not try it.

So right now I am just checking in with you and want you to STAY  MOTIVATED and do not give up.   Stay focused on what I told you to envision in Seg. 1.  You are on your way.  I can’t wait to tell you about #OperationPeelTheCoat

Keepin' It Real by PractiKAL - Seg. 2

Segment: 2

Okay Listen Up:

You know darn well you want to look your absolute best  -trim and fit, both in and out of your clothes -  right? Come on now - lets keep it real - yes you do. You want to feel good about your physical appearance.

  • You want to be energized for more than a few hours.

  • Don’t you know you can.
  •  Realize you control your destiny whether it be on a job, in a relationship and your dress or pants size.

  • You also control the way you feel.

So when you walk in McDonald’s and order a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, medium fries and large Coke (then you super size your entire order) - go back and read “First” above.  Guess what - you just controlled your destiny with regard to your dress/pants size. You are not taking this serious. The scale and your waist size will not go down if you keep these eating habits.  You must first break your junk food habits or at least minimize them.

So for Segment 2 your challenge is to determine if you have the WILL POWER to resist going to FAST FOOD JOINTS like McDonald’s, etc .  If you can’t have fast food, lets see what you will substitute the junk food with. Also, during this first week, make sure you consume more water than normal and incorporate a variety of fresh fruits through the day as your snack.  Please refrain from snacking on sweets, chips and dips, because you know once you start, you can’t stop and then the next thing you know, you are looking for a garbage to throw the empty bag into.  You know you do this, so stop now.

Doing the above will give your system of well deserved break from the abuse you have put it through by eating poorly.  Also, if you think you have to eat meat with every meal - you are sadly mistaken.  So challenge yourself for a week and in the next segment I will tell you what you just accomplished.

Keepin’ It Real by PractiKAL - Seg. 1

Segment: 1

Did you make a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight?    Did you last year?  The year before that?  Did you succeed?  If your answer is NO then you really need to hear this.

DO NOT be a procrastinator.  Get started today, right now. - - A year lasts twelve months.  What, are you going to have an excuse month after month for not starting today? Please do not do that.  Before you know it November will roll around and all the tempting foods and desserts will be the excuse; next December rolls around and again, more excuses; then the New Year arrives and guess what, YOU literally roll in because you gained more weight than you lost.  I’m just keepin’ it real.

It’s a New Year but the same old you. You have to stick to what you say you are going to do and follow through this time.  Do not let anyone steer you away from what you are trying to accomplish.  Oh trust me, people will try, especially if what you are doing is positive.   People are  selfish like that.

So here is what I want you to do TODAY.... Envision yourself six months from now after you have lost weight.  You should be smiling.   Envision yourself making it through Thanksgiving and Christmas this year with self-control and no excuses.   Envision the reactions you get from people as to how much you have changed;  Envision people asking you for the secrets of your success.  This can become reality.

The next time we talk, I will give you ideas on how to get started.  It’s so simple you won’t believe it.  So in the meantime put on your game face and take your goals serious this time.

What a Year, Goodbye 2013

In 2013 so much has happened but by far the happiest moment for me was the birth of my twin nephews Jet and Jax on the 4th of July. They have brought so many smiles to my family, it is ridiculous. They were a breath of fresh air, and I can't wait for all the time I get to spend with them. I love these little guys.

I lost one of my dogs this year, he was with me since the beginning of high school. I enjoyed having him here all these years and I know he is a better place now. All around i couldn't really ask for a better pet. He was truly like a member of the family.

My Grandfather turned 80 this year, what a milestone. I couldn't have asked for a better grandparent. Sometimes difficult but still irreplaceable. At 80 he still does everything that he can for his family.

There are so many more things that happened in this year. My cousin revealed that she will be expecting a baby girl sometime in January. I strengthened my friendship with my real friends and cut off the fake people. I am leaving most of the negative behind, but it's the same me going into 2014.

Communication is Key!

Communication is the key and the base to all real relationships. You can't even call yourself a friend if you never talk to that person. Some people think just saying hi, how you doing, and bye is having a conversation; but that is basically checking up on somebody. Some people suck at communication, we all know or have a few people like that in our life. How is a person going to know if you're going through something or need some help if you don't talk to them about it. Even through text messages, for an example if I never hear from you after I have reached out numerous times there is no point of me even texting you. Communication goes a long way, there has to be some kind of communication to get any where.

Just Do You!

I basically want to say that you should just be yourself, do you in other words. Always trying to please somebody does not really benefit you. I am not saying that you shouldn't do things for people, but every one should not get that type of treatment. Most people are blind to the fact that a person actually likes them, and values their friendship. Like text messages that don't get replied to, calls that don't get answered, and dates that are never upheld. There are just some things you just can't control. In reality what kind of friend is that, I don't need people like that in my life. When things get like that, you basically need to draw the line and start doing you. Do what makes you happy even if it's just playing the game, smoking, drinking, going out, hanging with people, or whatever just do it. Don't set yourself up for failure. Everything will be better off that way trust me.

One of My All-Time Favorite Movies

One of the movies that I can watch over and over again is definitely "Friday" starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. This movie is hilarious to me, to the point where I know every word. I have put this movie on and literally started drawing and/or doing other things, but I can listen to this movie and picture it in my head. That right there should show you how much and how many times I have watched this movie. So if you haven't seen this movie or haven't watched it in a while you should go watch it when you have some free time.
